Downtime
Templars tend to have a lot of downtime between missions. Per week you get to choose a field in which you are skilled to gain extra points that can be spent on unlocks.
Research
Research is subdivided in three field. Science, Engineering and Lore. Unlocking things requires One or more of these points. Once you reach the required level of points for an unlock, you can make a Science, Engineering or Lore roll to unlock a certain item in that field. When you spend downtime on research you get 1 point per +1 in the skill, per week of downtime spent.
Lore
Categories include: Mystical beasts, resources and items
Science
Categories include: Natural beasts, Scientific theories, training theories, historical recovery
Engineering
Unlocking blueprints based on scientific theories and magical components and resources.
Arcane Lore
Is only used for Secrets and Magical components, as well as magical item blueprints.
Development
Development means creating iterating on design blueprints and improving them. You generate Development Points that you can use to build new weapons, tools and gadgets. Once you've unlocked enough development points, and have the required blueprint, you can create the weapon, tool or gadget (or improve upon it). When you spend downtime on Development you get 1 point per +1 in the Engineering skill, per week of downtime spent.
Training
Training means working with the team in creating new tactics and techniques. You can do this in downtime, but also when exceeding yourself in the field, Training points can be earned. (Both as a reward for good planning and execution and from excess Fatepoints you were unable to spend). When you spend downtime on training you get 1 point per week of downtime spent.
