Forever your shield

(Forever your shield in calamity and love)

This "idea" is being tested. Changes can be frequent. You are free to use this, and you can always provide me with ideas! I am LordByte#0657 on Discord.

Forever your shield is a roleplaying "game" meant for a dom (gentle protective dom initialy) and sub dynamic (using the Fate Core system). The general idea is that the dom is sort of protector for his charge, the sub. Whether called into existence by a higher being or transported, he's unequivocally bound to his charge. Their bond is mysterious but very powerful. As long as the "Shield" protects and aids his "Charge", the Charge's affection and bond between them will in turn heal and restore any damage or consequences the Shield suffered. The Charge is the Hero of the story, and the Shield should never take center stage, but he can aid and abet, teach and advise, as long as the final choice rests firmly with the Charge. Any mistakes made, or consequences suffered by the Charge will always be taken by the Shield. (Anything from interposing between the "damage", taking the consequences, or overtly protective actions undertaken by the Shield to prevent failure, will cause "stress". Stress that can be restored between scenes by pleasing the Shield (and each other) ;)

Setup

Both should agree on a world and setting, the Dom should take charge of the GMing duties, and thinking up adventures, but you can (and should) work cooperatively on a setting. Most rules stay as in Fate Core. Skill list gets adapted to the setting and a few skills will get changed as detailed below. Fate points get renamed to "Bond" points. Any stress incurred by the Charge gets taken by the Shield instead (by interposition, defensive moves, magically or whatever fits the situation).

Skill list

  • Shield : The shield skill is the catch-all defensive skill, indicating the bond between you and your shield. The better your Shield skill, the less stress the Shield takes as you've both learned to work together and trust each other in a conflict to each do your part.

The Bond

The nature of the Bond is left up to your collective imaginations, be it Magical (a summoning? gone wrong? a djinn?...), Divine (an angel? a holy mission?...), Mythical (the Shield is on quest to protect his Charge), Diabolical (the Shield may be a bound Demon,...),... or whatever else you can think of!

Stunts

Stuns involving the Shield (or the Charge) respectively are a great idea. Example:

  • Loving whisper Once per session, at the cost of a Bond point, you can reduce the severity of a moderate consequence to your Shield to a mild consequence, or erase a mild consequence altogether. A whisper, a caress,... is all your Shield needs to bite through the pain!
  • I need your strength Once per scene, for a Bond point, the Shield will lend you his strength, encouraging you, holding you lovingly, or simply being there is all you need for a +2 boost to your next two skill rolls. A bead of perspiration rolls over your face, as you try to shape the magical energy, but suddenly you feel his hand on your arm, a gentle squeeze, and it's as if his strength flows into you... And as the magic starts taking form, you simply know how it all fits together, it's easier now!
  • Fury of the Shield The Shield sees your predicament and charges in (for a Bond point), dealing up to 1 points of stress spread for every opponent involved in the conflict, and giving them the "Stunned" minor consequence. "I need your aid!" You call out as the 2 assassin's corner you, changing his style to offence the Shield rushes in and grabs one of the assailants and bowls him into his surprised colleague. With a bone-crunching thud, they both hit the ground.
